Tuesday was our final day in Dube Bute/Awassa, so we were able to relax back at the hotel after the mad dash from the rains in Dube Bute. The rest time is essential since it seems a common theme that all the adults wake up around 4am. FOR. THE. DAY! I'm not sure how we'll maintain this schedule, but no matter what time I go to bed here, I'm up 4 hours later, and wide awake!
I woke up to Sophie getting sick on Wednesday morning. Knowing that we had a four (five, six, eight?) hour drive back to Addis, I was a little (lot) nervous that it could be a DISASTER! You do not want to have GI issues in Africa while stuck on a bumpy bus ride when you already get car sick. Well, at least your mom doesn't want you to! We didn't make any friends in the lobby as she's running through yelling my name with a hand over her mouth. Luckily, we are blessed with lots of medical professionals on this trip, so an anti-nausea pill mixed with an anti-diarrheal pill and she literally passed out cold in the van for four hours. She woke up hungry and back to her old self. Crisis averted - what a trouper!
It was good to get back to Addis and get settled into our hotel room for the rest of the trip. We were finally able to really unpack and help get the conference room somewhat organized with the overabundance of donated supplies. I wish I had taken a picture of that - we were all really blessed with the outpouring of support from our friends and families - dental supplies, dermatology creams, shoes, food, clothing, baby formula, diapers, you name it!
